A Salute To Our Mascot
Today I would like to salute the Mascot of our salvage trip to New Orleans: Leopold, the amazing mutant betta fish.
Why have we officially declared Leopold our mascot? Because he is a SURVIVOR! He survived Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Leopold is my roommate Marissa's fish. We left him in the walk-in closet upstairs, the only room in the house that has no windows and has never had water damage, as a safety measure on August 28th. Unfortunately, this time the roof blew off and the ceiling collapsed in the closet, leaving many of our clothes too moldy to recover. Imagine our surprise when we arrived on September 24th to find the fish ALIVE under the wreckage and swimming happily around the small chunks of drywall and wisps of fiberglass that were submerged in his fishbowl! No food for a month? Heh! The amazing mutant betta fish scoffs at starvation! Dirty water? Ha! He eats drywall for lunch! He laughs in the face of the looters that stole our electronics! He knows what it means to be a survivor of New Orleans.
We salute you, Leopold. You may well be from outer space, and not a real fish at all. But nevertheless we salute you.
